Alternative Lifestyle Scholarship

Criteria:  This award is for gay and lesbian students seeking an undergraduate, graduate or post-graduate degree at an accredited four-year college or university, with emphasis on initial entrance undergraduate programs. Scholarships distributed equally among men and women. Applicants will be considered without regard to sex, race, national origin, age, physical challenge or religion.

American Water Resources Association, Florida Section Scholarship

Criteria: The selection criteria for an undergraduate will be for the most qualified by academic performance. Measures of academic performance include the cumulative grade point average, relevance of the student’s curriculum to water resources and leadership in extracurricular activities related to water resources. The criteria for a graduate student will be for the most qualified by academic and/or research performance. The measures of academic performance will be identical to those described for the undergraduate criteria with the addition of the quality of the student’s research and its relevance to water resources.

ASTA Foundation

Criteria:  Must submit proof of having attained a high school diploma and have two years worth of credits in college or university. Must submit proof that they have been involved in a professional capacity in the travel and the tourism industry at the college or university level for at least two years. Must submit a 500 word essay in Spanish and in English on " How the Travel Can Serve to Promote Understanding Between Different Cultures.

Avis Rent A Car Scholarship

Criteria: This is a graduate-level scholarship specifically for individuals who have already gained experience in the travel industry. Applicant must submit a 500-750-word essay explaining how the graduate program relates to his/her future career in the travel industry. The applicant must have a minimum of four years of full-time travel agency experience, and must currently be an owner/officer or employee of a travel agency. He/she must be enrolled in a minimum of two courses per semester in an accredited MBA or MS in Business or equivalent graduate degree program at a 4-year accredited college/university. Applicant must have at least a 3.0 average on a 4.0 scale and provide transcripts from the last academic term. If reentering school after spending time in the work force, applicant must submit an undergraduate transcript. The scholarship is renewable for up to three years provided the applicant maintains a superior grade point average. The applicant must be a resident, citizen, or legal alien of the United States or Canada.

The Bailey Family Foundation

Criteria: The Bailey Family Foundation wants to encourage students to continue their education by awarding scholarships to students who have demonstrated scholastic achievement and financial need. Undergraduate student must possess a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.5, and demonstrate financial need.  Applicants must be enrolled or accepted to one of the participating schools listed on the scholarship application. Applicants must be US residents.  If selected, information WILL be verified.

Deadline: Two deadlines yearly, usually in March and September.  College scholarship applications are accepted during Jan-Mar and Jul-Sep scholarship periods

Critical Teacher Shortage (CTS) Forgivable Loan Program

Criteria: Applicant must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours for undergraduate study or 9 credit hours for graduate study for each academic term in which an award is received. Applicant must not have participated, nor may they currently or in the future participate, in any of the following programs: Critical Teacher Shortage Loan Forgiveness, Critical Teacher Shortage Scholarship Loan, Masters' Fellowship Loan for Teachers, "Chappie" James Most Promising Teacher Scholarship Loan, or the Paul Douglas Teacher Scholarship. Applicant must not owe a repayment under any state or federal grant or scholarship program, must not be in default on any federal Title IV or state loan program unless satisfactory arrangements to repay have been made. Applicant must be recommended for acceptance or currently enrolled in a state-approved teacher education program leading to a certification in a critical teacher shortage subject area. An initial applicant must declare an intention to teach in Florida public elementary or secondary schools for the number of years the loan is received. For an initial undergraduate loan, a participant must be an upper division student, have scored at the 40th percentile or better on the SAT or ACT, and have earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale for all undergraduate work. For an initial graduate loan, a participant must have received a bachelor's degree from any college or university accredited by one of the six regional accrediting associations specified by the Florida Department of Education, have earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for all undergraduate work or scored at least 1,000 on the GRE, not have received a bachelor's degree in education in a critical teacher shortage subject area, not hold a teaching certificate in a critical teacher shortage subject area, and not have received an undergraduate loan through this program.

Current Teachers Scholarship Program

Criteria: Current, full-time K-12 Florida teachers, need financial assistance to complete their studies, and meet one of the following additional criteria:

  • Seeking to complete courses required to obtain initial professional teacher certification
  • Seeking to complete courses which would allow them to teach an additional subject area
  • Seeking to complete an alternative certification program leading to professional teacher certification
  • Seeking to complete courses that will upgrade their skills or subject content knowledge

The scholarship can be used for graduate studies.
