A-C AAJA-Newhouse National Scholarships Criteria: Program welcomes applications from historically underrepresented Asian Pacific American groups, including Southeast Asians, South Asians, Koreans, Filipinos, and Pacific Islanders. Applicants may be graduating high school seniors who declare journalism as a major. May also be an undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in journalism and a career in print journalism. Selection is based on scholastic ability, commitment to journalism, sensitivity to Asian American issues as demonstrated by community involvement, journalistic ability and financial need. Applicants must have successfully completed two years of study by August 2001 at an accredited institution with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Candidates must be United States citizens or hold permanent resident status. There are two categories of students are eligible: 1) Students who are enrolled or who are planning to enroll in a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in the atmospheric or related oceanic or hydrologic sciences. 2) Students who are enrolled in a program leading to a bachelor's degree in science or engineering who have demonstrated a clear intent to pursue a career in the atmospheric or related oceanic or hydrologic sciences following completion of appropriate specialized education at the graduate level. Clear intent must be demonstrated by presentation of a proposed program of study for the junior and senior years designed to prepare the student for admission to a graduate program in the atmospheric or related discipline.
